Inauguration 2009

Wow, America can really put on a show....
Today we were able to witness a new chapter in American History. Today brings a great time of hope and change. It also means a lot of different things to many different people.

Students, your assignment for communication arts is to reply to the question, "what does this day mean to you?" Be as descriptive as possible, feel free to explain any feelings or thoughts about the speech and the inauguration. Visitors, feel free to add your thoughts as well.

This day was a historic day, It was the day the first African American president signed into office. It shows there is no racial diversity in the United States and that everyone is equal.

cheyenne thinks it was pretty good.
I think the speeches were great and having a smart president might help a bit to, but other than that it was rather loud!!!!!!!!!!!

"The importance of this inauguration is not about party politics; instead it is about acknowledging our past while celebrating our present."

I posted this on Twitter while watching the inauguration.

Optimism. Today when I watched the events that played out I saw millions of people that are optimistic for change. People that waited in 20 degree weather for hours, just for a chance to catch a glimpse of one single man in-person or even on a jumbo-tron. Many of those people are the ones facing hardships right now, but they are still optimistic for hope and change.

It is truly an awesome sight to see so many Americans, regardless of political affiliation, come together and celebrate a new era in American History....never seen anything like it, and its likely we might not see it again in our lifetime.

Regardless of political preference, the inauguration confirms that democracy works. We live in the greatest country in the world and we are so lucky to have the process that we do, in choosing our government.

Today was important, because the people, through voting, were able to choose whom they wanted to lead for the next four years. How wonderful and exciting is that...

I just posted a post about this on MrC's blog but even in New Zealand we had a lot of publicity and the celebrations shown on TV here (to put it in perspective Im pretty sure that its the first time ever that that's been done... there's certainly a feeling of positivity about the whole thing and it will be interesting to see how the feeling rubs off on individuals, groups and countries. Nice work as always and also good to see New Zealand maintaining a solid second place in the country stats on this blog! Go Kiwis!
